What to consider when writing an online dating profile.
You have made the decision to put yourself out there. You hope that it’ll be for the best. That maybe you might find someone. But now that the empty form is staring at you, it seems easier to just not say anything.
Don’t do that!
Your online profile is your five minute chance to introduce yourself to what may be the person of your dreams. If you say nothing, you are like the person standing against the wall at a party saying nothing. In a digital room full of people, don’t be that person.
1) Be yourself. I know. It’s cliché. However, if you can find some way to let your personality shine through what you write, do it! Make the stupid joke. Be a nerd. Add emoticons. What will make someone message you could very well be that your profile made them smile. if it’s hard to type out what you want to say, you can always do voice-to-text.
2) Be honest. Sure, you might feel that you should not admit you’re the State’s Knitting Champion, or you really think you shouldn’t drink as much as you do, but if you aren’t honest, the person who you’re suppose to be with might pass you by because you are too different. Remember, there’s no wrong answers to this.
3) Upload a great picture! Bad news: people will judge you by your profile picture. You might be the best person on the planet, but if your main picture is only half a face, or took dark, or has you with someone else, pretty good chance you’ll get passed over (and not in a good way). Let’s go back to the digital room idea; would your profile picture make you look approachable or avoidable?
4) Feel free to change it. Just because you wrote one thing doesn’t mean that you can’t edit it later. Perhaps you remembered something important that should have been added. Or you saw what someone else did and really liked it. Just because you wrote something doesn’t mean it’s forever.
Those are the important tips that we have about what would make a great profile. We hope it helps.
